Tonight's Studies (Torso Anatomy)

So.. here's the promised torso anatomy (they are from reference, Drawing School Anatomy book), trying to remember the shape, contours, and placement of the muscles on the torso as I'm drawing, and how it connects with the head and the arms. Also I'm trying really hard to keep things in proportion by gesturing carefully with the side of the pencil first, and then measuring by eye, checking with big shapes first and then going more detailed with the point of the pencil. And then to improve the quality I'm trying to use just a single, confident line to represent the shape and mass of what I'm drawing, thinking all the time about the mass, this is very important as it builds confidence and observation skills.

Today's Studies

Hey everyone, here are studies of the proportions of the male and female body, anatomy study for the neck, and then 30 second drawings.

Tomorrow I hope to go onto the torso. I have some issues with keeping things in proportion, it is something to work on. Got to keep thinking in big shapes, and measure things using points, and constant measuring by eye. Also I need to work on caliper vision by measuring between three points inside the form.

Oh yes, also did a Bargue drawing, trying to improve my proportion and measuring skills, as well as the quality of my line.

Anyway, onto the torso tomorrow, in preparation for this character design study.

Tonight's Drawings

Tonight's drawings, a rubbishy self portrait (really need to learn to see contour -around- mass, it isn't difficult to learn apparently, just that the eyes and brain deceive one another). Then a pile of 30 second drawings to train for drawing of shapes of the body.

Tonight's Studies

Some are from life, just around the town, some random drawings really, also starting to practice some continuous line drawing, as well as some female head studies and basic shapes drawing from life.

I'm trying out different ways to draw, gesturing quickly (light drawing), and then using shorter strokes (roughing in) for a more precise line over the top of this gesture, and then going over this again with a final contour line. I love this way of drawing. =)

Character Design Studies

Heya, here are tonight's studies on the figure. I'm thinking about a character design, something along the lines of a good natured character, because the last ones I've made at University were all evil in nature. Apparently it's easier to develop evil characters, so I would like to make something a bit more interesting now.
